Louisiana Pork

"Our politicians never cared half as much about protecting us as they cared about pork."
So said one New Orleans resident, now holed up in a St. Louis hotel while her neighborhood is under water. The reason she's so angry: it turns out that Army Corps of Engineers spends more money in Louisiana than anywhere else in the country, but often times the states Congressional delegation dictates pork-barrel projects over common sense projects.

Thanks to Pejman Yousefzedah for the the WaPo story, and this article too from the Wall Street Journal that decries the bureaucratic debacle of big government in the wake of Katrina.

By the way, the Bush administration has spent slightly more money in Louisiana than the Clinton administration. Enough of the "Katrina is Bush's fault."
